Income / Capital

How will my savings affect my benefit?

If you or your partner have combined savings of more than £16,000, you can not get Housing or Council Tax Benefit (unless you are a pensioner getting Guarantee Credit). If you and your partner are both under 60 and have savings of £3,000 or less, we will ignore them. If you have more than £3,000 we will add £1 to your weekly income for every £250 or part of £250 savings you have over £3,000.If you or your partner are over 60, we will ignore combined savings of £6,000. If you have more than £6,000 we will add £1 to your weekly income for every £500 or part of £500 savings you have over £6,000. We will ignore any interest you get from your savings.
