Animal licensing

The Licensing team at Taunton Deane Borough Council (TDBC) is responsible for regulating animal licensing under the The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.

Licensing regulates animal boarders, dog breeders, pet shops, riding establishments, dangerous wild animal keepers and zoos to ensure that animals are kept in suitable living conditions and are properly looked after.

With effect from 1 October 2018, The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 updated a number of licensing provisions.  Anyone with an existing animal related business or planning a business should read the regulations and guidance notes which accompany them.

Licensing arrangements for Dangerous Wild Animals and for Zoos are not altered by the new regulations.

Further information can be found in the Procedural Guidance for Animal Activity Licensing 2018.
