Animal boarding licence

Any business providing accommodation or care for other peoples dogs and cats is required to apply for a licence. You must be over 18 years of age and not be disqualified from keeping an animal boarding establishment or from keeping or having custody of animals.

If you board animals at your home, you will need to apply for a home boarding establishment licence.

To apply you need to complete the animal boarding establishment licence application online on Gov.uk. Alternatively you can download an animal boarding establishment application form and once you have completed the it,  return it to us with the relevant fee and a public liability insurance certificate.

The cost to apply for the grant of an animal boarding establishment licence is £332. The cost to apply for a further licence is £316.

Once we receive your application, a licensing officer will arrange to inspect your premises.

During the inspection the licensing officer will check that you are able to comply with the standard licence conditions.  Please view the cat boarding model licence conditions or the dog boarding model licence conditions for more information on animal boarding best practice.  A decision will be made after the inspection.

You should allow two months for your application to be processed.
