Silk Mills Local Nature Reserve

Silk Mills Local Nature Reserve was designated in January 2010.The reserve consists of three parcels of land mainly set amidst farmland adjacent to the River Tone to the west of Taunton town centre. The main area consists of landscaping and flood alleviation works constructed as part of Somerset County Council's Park and Ride scheme. The reserve can be accessed by footpaths from Longrun meadows and from Roughmoor.

Habitats include newly planted broad leaved woodland, wet woodland, wet and neutral grassland and two retention ponds with a variety of aquatic and marginal vegetation.

Wildlife using the reserve include several bat species including serotine and whiskered bats, birds including kingfisher and several reptiles and invertebrates.
The reserve is owned by Somerset County Council but managed by the District Council.
