Empty Homes are a wasted source of housing and can cause negative impacts on the area around them.
Houses which fall into disrepair can reduce the value of other houses in the area, attract vermin, may become unsafe and can become the focal point for anti-social behaviour.
We work with Sedgemoor District Council and West Somerset Council in a partnership called Somerset West Private Sector Housing Partnership (SWPSHP).
The partnership's aim is to work with owners of empty properties to bring them back into use. We can provide information, advice and guidance to empty property owners and work closely with other key stakeholders such as our preferred loan provider, Wessex Home Improvement Loans, Somerset Care and Repair (a charitable, not-for-profit home improvement agency), estate agents, managing and letting agents, solicitors, developers and auctioneers.
We can also take necessary enforcement action against owners who keep their properties empty without good reason.
All owners or their representatives are welcome to seek information, advice and guidance. Contact the Empty Homes Coordinator on 01823 356430 (Tuesday to Thursday).
