The Electoral Register

The electoral register is the list of everyone who is entitled to vote. We update it every year using the details from the registration form you receive each autumn. A Register is then published on the 1st of December. However, if you move after this or were missed off the Register you can still apply to go on throughout the year under Rolling Registration.

The PDF application form to register (61 KB) is available to download.

The application form to register is available in other languages and can be downloaded from the Electoral Commission website (external link).

# Why should I register?

You can only vote in elections if your name is on the register of electors for your area. We update the register in October each year. However under Rolling Registration we can add you to the Register as and when you move. Just fill in this form.

# What does this form do?

Filling in this form will let us add your name to the electoral register for this area. But you must fill in and sign the form yourself. If anyone else in your house is eligible to vote, they must fill in a separate form. You can print or photocopy the form or contact us if you need more forms.

# Who can register?

You must be:
  • over 16 (you cannot vote until your 18th birthday);
  • a British or Commonwealth citizen;
  • or a citizen of the Irish Republic or of another EU member state.
  • Citizens of EU member states other than the UK or the Irish Republic are only eligible to vote in local government elections.
  • If you are not a British or Irish Republic citizen, you must fill in a separate form to vote in European Parliamentary elections.
# When will you add my name?

Your name will be added to the register within six weeks of your application.
