Cooling towers and evaporative condensers

If you have a cooling tower or evaporative condenser in the borough of Taunton Deane you need to notify us.

The main purpose of these regulations is to help inspectors in investigating outbreaks of disease thought to have arisen from wet cooling towers of evaporative condensers. An outbreak is two or more confirmed related cases. This information is available to both local authority and HSE officers.

Information on Legionnaires disease is available from the Health and Safety Executive website.

In order to notify us of a cooling tower or evaporative condenser, please complete the online application at Gov.uk.

Alternatively you can download the cooling towers and evaporative condensers form and, once completed, send it into us.

You can download the current list of cooling towers in our area.  The information is updated whenever we receive a new registration.

Laws and regulation

The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condenser Regulations (1992) require the notification of wet cooling towers and evaporative condensers to local authorities in whose area the equipment is situated, regardless of whether it is the local authority or Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that is the enforcing authority for the premises concerned.
