How to apply for a job

Currently all vacancies advertised for the Council require the completion of an application form. The information provided in an application form is the only information we will use in deciding whether or not you will be short listed for the selection process. (Please do not send in either CV’s or testimonials as these will not be taken into consideration).

It's important before you start to fill in your application form that you take the time to read through the job description and person specification. By reading through these items you will be able to learn more about the job, and also find out what skills and experiences you need to have to be successful.
Make sure you fill in your application as fully as possible - it is your opportunity to tell us about yourself, and how you meet what we are looking for. Give examples from either your home or work life to show you have the skills and experiences we want. If you are a school or college leaver with little work experience, draw on your time at school or college and extra-curricular activities you were involved in. Give your full employment history including brief reasons for any gaps in between employment. If applying for care posts or posts working directly with children or vulnerable adults this section will need to be particularly thorough.

We require two references, which will normally be contacted if you are successful at interview. To ensure that we can obtain references as quickly as possible, please provide a telephone number and, if possible, e-mail address for both your referees. Referees should not be friends, or colleagues who have not managed you.

For posts working with children/vulnerable adults, any current or previous employer will be asked about relevant disciplinary offences (time expired or not), whether you have been the subject of any child protection concerns and the outcome of any subsequent enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

We reserve the right to ask for information from any previous employer, especially any job involving work with children or vulnerable adults.
