People in Taunton Deane are being invited to show their support for the Armed Forces, particularly 40 Commando Royal Marines and The Rifles who have a long association with the Borough.
This year marks the tenth Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June 2018, and Taunton Deane Borough Council will, once again, lead the commemorations with a flag raising ceremony.
The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised on Monday 25 June 2018 at a short ceremony to be led by the Mayor of Taunton Deane, Councillor Catherine Herbert, alongside the Chairman of Somerset County Council, Councillor Nigel Taylor. The ceremony will take place at the flagpole outside County Hall, Taunton, due to building works at The Deane House. However, the flag will still be flown at the Council’s Belvedere Road premises.
Once raised, the flag will be flown for the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.
Mayor of Taunton Deane, Councillor Catherine Herbert, said: “The respect and appreciation shown by the local community goes a long way to sustaining the high morale of the Armed Forces “family”, including regulars, reserves, veterans and their families. I am proud to be leading the flag raising ceremony this year and extend a warm invitation for the community to attend the ceremony which will start at 11:00 am.”
