The North Taunton One Team is linking up with Lyngford Park Surgery and Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to bring a programme of events to Priorswood.
The organisations have put together a variety of events and activities for residents of North Taunton under the banner ‘What is Good for You’.
The programme, being run during Mental Health Awareness Week, aims to focus on what we can all do to improve our own and other people’s well-being, such as physical and mental exercise, seeking companionship and feeling part of the community.
The programme of activities, co-ordinated by the Lyngford Park Surgery, will be based around the Priorswood Shopping Centre and in Priorswood Library from 10 am 5 pm on Tuesday 9 May 2017 and from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday 13 May 2017. There will also be a pub quiz at The Waggon on Wednesday 10 May 2017 at 7 pm.
The nursing team from the surgery will be taking blood pressure and pulse measurements and the doctors will also be available during the day on the Lyngford Park Surgery stand. Fifteen organisations such as MIND and Age UK Somerset will also be taking part, providing an opportunity to learn about ‘What is Good for You’, as well as being inspired to achieve more in life.
Display stands will provide the public with information about what they can do to improve their physical and mental well-being. People will be showcasing the benefits of music, story-telling for adults, exercise, nutrition and juggling, thus ensuring the appeal for all ages.
Refreshments will be available - provided by the local Co-op store, prepared in the Priorswood Community Centre and served by volunteers on tables loaned by Priorswood based charity, the Home Furniture Services Trust (FurniTrust).
Jayne Hares, the Council’s Community Development Officer, working within the North Taunton One Team, said: “This is a wonderful example of people working together for the benefit of their community. We are fortunate to have such pro-active people in North Taunton and I am delighted that so many are joining in to make this event a success. I am grateful to Lyngford Park Surgery for coming up with this idea to help improve the well-being of local residents and those from other parts of Taunton. It’s a big step forward to have this level of collaborative working.”
Trudi Mann, Practice Manager at Lyngford Park Surgery, said: "Our Patients’ Group has worked really hard organising this event and we hope the local community will turn up and enjoy everything on offer.”
