Lottery raises over £10,000 for good causes since its launch in July - 12 December 2017

One lucky winner has scooped the bonus prize of a luxury Marks and Spencer’s Christmas Hamper.  The extra prize was a feature of the first draw in December.

Sarah-Jane Date, a volunteer for the Minehead Swimming Pool Project, was thrilled to win the Christmas hamper and said:  ‘I have been encouraging people to buy lottery tickets to support the Minehead Swimming Pool Project and thought I ought to buy a ticket too.  So I was delighted that I won this Christmas hamper as it was the first time I had bought a lottery ticket.”

Tickets for the Somerset West Lottery - with a £25,000 top prize – have now reached more than 6,000 sales with 60% of the income going to local good causes and the remainder for prizes and the external company running the lottery for the Councils.

Councillor Dave Westcott, lead member for communities with West Somerset Council, said: “I was delighted to present Sarah-Jane with her prize – and to thank her for supporting the lottery.”

Councillor Jane Warmington, Executive member for community leadership with Taunton Deane Borough Council, said: “I am thrilled that the lottery has attracted more than 700 supporters with more than 1,500 tickets sold every week.  The lottery has the potential to raise nearly £50,000 a year for local good causes in Taunton Deane and West Somerset.”

The local on-line lottery is open to anyone, aged over 16 to raise money for charities and local good causes in Taunton Deane and West Somerset.  Buying a ticket is very easy on-line:  Somerset Lottery and for those who do not have internet access, they can call the helpline number 0300 30 20 666 to play the lottery.
