Mayor of Taunton Deane, Councillor Hazel Prior-Sankey, is thanking everyone who pulled together during some of the most extreme weather in recent times.
Volunteers including groups and individuals sprang into action to help their communities cope with deep snow and icy temperatures.
“I am so proud of the spirit shown by our community. There were so many selfless actions to help those in need – from the 4x4 drivers who worked tirelessly to transport staff to hospital, the elderly to vital appointments and more.
“Farmers, too, were fantastic driving their tractors to clear snow and to help transport people as well. There have been so many acts of kindness from so many people – I would like to thank them all.
“Our gratitude must also go to the teams working on the gritters and snowploughs in atrocious conditions, the emergency services and, of course, staff at the Deane Helpline who worked so hard to help the most vulnerable.
“People also showed what good neighbours they are by checking on elderly or vulnerable people living near them – just a kind word and an offer of help mean so much.
“There are so many unsung heroes in our community – each and every one should be so proud of what they did. On behalf of our community, I thank them all.”
