Description
This reserve consists of a manmade pond and boardwalk with associated mosaic of habitats including grassland, hedges and tree groups.
The adjoining Basins system has significant local historical, amenity and landscape value, in addition to its wildlife value. The whole area is open access.
The pond and its margins support diverse fauna and flora. Five species of bat have been recorded including lesser horseshoe and noctule. Birds that regularly visit the site include grey wagtail, dipper and reed bunting. Palmate newt, smooth newt, common frog and common toad are present, as are grass snakes.
A wide range of aquatic and other invertebrates have been recorded in the general Basins area including emperor, southern and common hawker. Butterflies present include meadowbrown, small skipper, marbled white and purple hairstreak.
