Taunton Deane Building Control service is committed to the concepts of:

- providing documented assurance to Council Members and customers that the service is being provided in a consistent, professional,
- effective and efficient manner.
We will therefore undertake to:
- Be helpful, courteous, prompt and efficient in our responses to clients;
- Make the process of applying for, and obtaining the relevant Approval as simple and as easy as possible;
- Provide the name and means of contact of the staff member who is dealing with the work;
- Treat all customers equally.
Within the Scope of Building Regulations:

Determine all application within the required statutory periods;
- Provide a full technical appraisal to all applications within the performance targets set and published by the Building Control Manger;
- Inspect relevant work on-site for compliance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation;
- Give reasonable notice, carry out site inspections in line with the builders programme of works;
- Carry out the statutory duties and responsibilities as defined in the Building Acts and other associated legislation.
Within the Scope of Other Public Safety Matters:
- Provide a 24 hour emergency service an all dangerous buildings and structures reported to the council;
- Serve notices of conditions on persons giving notice of intended works of demolition.
To meet these objectives the Department applies a Quality System in accordance with the requirements of BS/EN/ISO 9002:1994.
Conformance with the requirements of ISO 9002 is mandatory for all staff engaged in the provision of Building Control services at Taunton Deane Borough Council.
