Memorials

The purchase of a memorial is a matter of personal choice, and there is a wide range of memorials available at the Crematorium for those who wish to commemorate a loved one in this way. Following a cremation service, the details concerning memorials for those cremated, are sent to the applicant for cremation. This contains information regarding the Book of Remembrance, memorial plaques and memorial tablets.
The applicant, (usually the next of kin) being the person who made the arrangements has the first opportunity to apply for a memorial.

Book of Remembrance

A section from the Book of RemembranceThe book is situated in The Chapel of Remembrance. This stands apart from the main building enabling visitors to view the Book every day of the year including bank holidays. The book provides an inexpensive yet lasting form of memorial.

The book is in four quarterly volumes, hand made throughout in high quality materials. Lettering by highly skilled craftsmen provides a permanent record comparable with the best illuminated manuscripts of medieval times.

The book is opened at the appropriate date each day of the year. It is displayed in a protective case, with entries being seen on each anniversary of that date. The office staff are always pleased to turn the page for those unable to visit on the anniversary date, but please check with the office first before arriving at the crematorium.

Relatives and friends may have entries inscribed on the page devoted to the date of death. Memorial cards and miniature books are available to order with a copy of the desired inscription.

The book has recently been 'digitally archived', a copy of an inscription can be viewed on screen when the book is being updated. You can view a digital Remembrance book (external link).

Memorial plaques

Memorial walls within the Garden of Rest accommodate cast bronze plaques. These plaques are available for a five year period, allowing inscriptions of up to 140 letters, renewable at the end of that term, at 50% of the fee at the time. Vases have been provided at the base of the wall to enable family and friends to place cut flowers in remembrance.

Memorial tablets

These are available for a ten year period, renewable at the end of that term, at 50% of the fee at that time. Larger inscriptions may be possible, please contact the Crematorium office.
