Transporting the Body
You may wish to hire a hearse. Alternatively transportation can be by
van, estate car or a hatchback with the rear passenger seat removed or
folded.
You may need to collect the body from a mortuary if the body is retained
there. You have a common law right, as executor or administrator, to be
given the body. You will need to telephone and arrange a collection time.
The staff may help you with lifting the body and advise you whether a
post mortem has been completed. Sometimes a small fee is payable for the
assistance of the staff.
Once you have removed the body, or if the deceased died at home, you
need to consider how to proceed. The body may be retained at home up to
the time of the funeral. If required, the body may be brought to the Crematorium
early in the morning on the day of the funeral. If this is your wish please let us know in advance.
