Rules and Regulations

Made by Taunton Deane Borough Council in respect of Taunton Deane Crematorium

Hours of opening
- Services may commence in the Crematorium Chapel between the following hours, by arrangement with the Registrar, from Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.
- The Crematorium office will be open daily between 9.00 am to 5.00 pm except Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Day, Good Friday and Bank Holidays.
- The Garden of Rest and the Chapel of Remembrance will be open daily from 8.30 am until sunset or at latest 7.00 pm.

Arrangements for cremation
All arrangements for and in connection with cremations must be made with the Registrar and shall be conducted in accordance with the statutory regulations for cremation and the then current Code of Cremation Practice of the Federation of British Cremation Authorities (See Appendix B).

Funerals
- Funeral corteges and all persons attending the cremation will be under the direction of the Registrar. If a funeral cortege arrives late the service shall take place as soon as possible thereafter at the direction of the Registrar.
- The duration of the service or ceremony in the chapel shall not exceed 20 minutes unless a longer period has been agreed with the Registrar. Notification must be provided if a large congregation is expected.
- Pre-recorded music for services (compact discs, tapes, etc.) must be delivered to the Crematorium at least 24 hours before the service.
- No dogs, other than guide dogs or the deceased's, will be allowed in the Crematorium chapel.

Instructions for funeral director
- All funerals shall be carried out in accordance with the then current edition of "Instructions for Funeral Directors" issued by the Federation of British Cremation Authorities (See Appendix C).
- The name of the deceased must be recorded on the coffin to the satisfaction of the Registrar.
- Coffins in excess of the following dimensions will not be accepted for cremation: Length 7' 3", Width 31 ½", Depth 27".

Admission to crematorium building
No person may enter the crematory or committal chamber for any reason without the prior permission of the Registrar.

Cremated remains
According to the written directions of the applicant for cremation, the cremated remains may be:
- Interred in the Garden of Rest or in a grave in the Cemeteries under the Council's control.
- Collected by a person whom the Registrar is satisfied is entitled to receive them. The cremated remains must be conveyed from the Crematorium in a suitable container approved by the Registrar.
- Deposited in the Crematorium subject to the payment of the prescribed fee.
- Posted in a specially constructed container provided for this purpose and suitably labelled.

Flowers and memorials
- All flowers brought to the Crematorium or Crematorium grounds shall be placed where directed by the Registrar.
- No unauthorised memorials or receptacles for plants or flowers shall be placed in the crematorium grounds.

Conduct
The Registrar shall exclude or remove from the Crematorium precincts anyone whom he considers to be acting in an unseemly manner.
These rules and regulations shall come into operation
on 1 July 2002 and shall supersede any rules previously in force.
