Council Tax is the way your local councils and police authorities raise the money to pay for their services. Most homes have to pay Council Tax - the amount you have to pay will depend on the valuation band your home has been placed in by the Valuation Office.
In March, each household receives a bill for the whole of the coming year. For each household a person (or persons) over the age of 18 is designated as being responsible for payment of the Council Tax.
