Advice, information and training
Currently the 'Deane Arts Update' gives news of training, funding and job opportunities.
- Arts Matrix (external link) runs a professional development service across the South West region. Get ahead with your career by talking to Carol Stone, the co-ordinator for Somerset on 01460 242463
- Arts Council England , South West (external link) provides an information bulletin giving details of jobs, research and opportunities for artists and others working in the arts.
- South West Screen (external link) are the equivalent of the Arts Council covering film, digital media and television.
- Take Art! (external link) supports performance artists through Dance Somerset and the Theatre Locality Plan.
- Actiontrack have a recording studio, and currently through the youth music project 'Breaking the Sound Barrier' can offer advice and support to young musicians and bands.
- Somerset Art Works (external link) run events to support visual artists.
- Somerset Partnership of Arts and Education Agency (SPAEDA) (external link) runs a Criminal Records Disclosure for artists working with in the community or schools. SPAEDA also runs training and networking events for artists and teachers.
Training
- The Train to Gain is a new skills brokerage service giving information on a wide selection of courses and training opportunities, many of which are geared to creative sole traders and small businesses. - VISTA, the Voluntary Sector Training Alliance, offers free training to voluntary groups on marketing, customer care, disability equality and the Disability Discrimination Act as well as fundraising. Visit the VISTA website (external link) or ring Debbie on 01458 259487 or 253599.
- Free fundraising and bespoke income generation advice is also available to not for profit organisations through En-Act on 01249 464686.
- The Independent Theatre Council offers training, legal advice, publications and information for members. Visit the Independant Theatre Council website (external link) or call 0207 4036698.
