About this review

Taunton Deane Borough Council is undertaking a full review of the polling districts and polling stations used during elections. Residents are being asked to share their views on the stations where they voted in the last election.

This is the first review of polling stations to be carried out under new Government regulations. These regulations require local authorities to examine their polling facilities every four years.

This consultation provides an opportunity for you to tell us what you think of the facilities provided on election days. There is a possibility that polling stations could be relocated as a result of the feedback received, so we would encourage residents to have a say.

Our aims

We aim, as far as practical to:

  • Locate all of the polling stations a convenient distance from the majority of electors' homes
  • To ensure that the polling stations are accessible to all.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the polling review happening?

The review is being carried out in accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983 (Section 18), as amended by the Electoral Administration 2006 (Section 16). These regulations require all local authorities to examine their polling facilities every four years.

Please note: All submissions must be received by Monday 3rd October.

What is a polling station?

This is the area/place where the voting process takes place.

What is a polling district?

This is the geographical sub-division of an electoral area, such as a ward

Will my comments change anything?

Your feedback is very important. If you do not have your say then we do not know what improvements or changes to make. The consultation provides an opportunity for voters to let us know what they think of the polling facilities that we provide on election day. The feedback could possibly result in the relocation of a polling station or improvements to facilities.

Polling district and area stations

The Public Consultation period commenced on 3 September 2007 and all representations and suggestions for new or alternative venues were received by 3 October 2007.

In light of all representations and suggestions received, the revised proposals for Polling Districts and Polling Places now include an additional Polling Station within the Halcon Ward in Taunton and one alternative Polling Station in the Pyrland and Rowbarton Ward.

We still welcome any further comments or proposals.
