Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy and Contaminated Land Register
Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy
The Council has produced a Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy which outlines the steps that will be taken to identify any contaminated land in the Taunton Deane area. It has been written and agreed after consultation with our many partners. This approach will ensure that resources are used effectively and that the most serious problems will be dealt with first.
The inspection of the area is carried out by the Council's Environmental Protection Team who:
- Gather information on sites where past use could have caused contamination of the land;
- Locate the areas where people and the environment are most likely to be affected by any contamination;
- Prioritise sites according to the potential for the past uses to cause contamination and the current proximity of people and sensitive environments;
- Carry out a site inspection;
- Determine whether the site can be classed as "contaminated land".
A copy of the Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy and annual reviews are available from the Environmental Protection Team or can be downloaded.
