Dangerous dogs
A dangerous dog is one that is dangerously out of control to the extent that it has bitten a person or there are real fears that it is likely to do so.
Taunton Deane Borough Council have an agreement with the local Police that they will deal with all incidents of dangerous dogs. We do however have an information sheet which provides more detail on the law surrounding Dangerous Dogs.

Rabies
In the event of a confirmed outbreak of rabies DEFRA (external link) - The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs would take immediate control and would direct operations, in line with the National Rabies Contingency Plan.
Borough Councils, including Taunton Deane if appropriate, would assist as required but have no specific responsibilities.
Locally, responsibilities for Rabies Contingency Planning rests with the Animal Health and Welfare Department of Somerset County Council (external link).
