50 Notable Trees - Page 3

Elm Tree

European White Elm (Ulmus laevis), Glebe Field, North Curry.

This tree is very rare in Britain. Native to Central Europe and Western Asia, it is not susceptible to the Dutch Elm Disease that has decimated Britain's native elm population.

Gingko Tree
Maidenhair Tree (Gingko biloba), junction of North Street, Station Road, Silver Street and Turnpike in Milverton.

In the autumn it is spectacular. When all the leaves turn yellow, it glows and for about one month it is an absolute eye-turner.
Oak Tree
English Oak (Quercus robur), village green, Kingston St. Mary.

This landmark tree was planted by Miss E B Cheetham of Tetton House on 13th December 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee.
