Housing Strategy Priorities

The Housing Strategy has identified 5 key priorities for the Council, these are:

• To provide new social housing
• To continue to improve services to homeless households
• To improve Private Sector Housing
• Continued investment in the management and maintenance of the housing stock to ensure it meets the needs of all tenants, who should be at the heart of the decision making process
• Continued support for a range of vulnerable groups

The Role of Housing in Taunton Deane

Housing has featured significantly in Government Policy and Legislation in the last 25 years. The role of Housing Strategy is now considered crucial within the Government's 'place shaping' and community development agenda. Consequently, the strategies produced by the Council change in emphasis over time. Currently the five Somerset Local Authorities are looking at the production of new joint (sub regional) Housing and Homelessness strategies.
