Housing Inspections for UK Entry Clearance

When an application is made to the British High Commission for Entry Clearance into the United Kingdom, the High Commission may request that you:

'Obtain an independent assessment of the number of rooms and occupants of the proposed accommodation. A self signed declaration signed by a family member, or a declaration drawn up by a third party but based on uncorroborated information supplied by the Applicant or sponsor is not acceptable. However, a report from a suitably qualified body certifying that a personal inspection has been carried out and giving details of accommodation inspected may be acceptable. Above all, the Entry Clearance officer must be satisfied that the accommodation will not become overcrowded within the definition of the Housing Act 1985 or that it will not contravene public health regulations'.

The Housing Standards team undertakes property inspections for UK Entry Clearance and if satisfactory, provide documentation that satisfies the above requirements. This is a free service.

Before an inspection of the property is arranged we would require the following information:

  • A completed Adobe Acrobat Format Proof of Title (82kb) This is normally completed by your Building Society or Solicitor where your deeds to the house are filed.
    or
    • If you own the house, you can bring an annual mortgage statement, replacing the Proof of Title, which includes the address of the property and the name of the person who owns the house.
    • If you rent the house a copy of your Tenancy Agreement is required. If you have a tenancy agreement, please provide us with a copy of your current gas safety certificate.
  • A completed Adobe Acrobat Format Application for an Accommodation Certificate (87kb) confirming who lives in your property at the moment.

  • The name of the applicant.

Could you please note that the property you intend to live in must be owned or occupied exclusively by you and your family.  Rented accommodation which is shared with members of another family is not acceptable.
