Tenant and Resident Involvement Strategy 2006 - 2007

This strategy builds upon both the Taunton Deane Tenant Participation Compact, first introduced at Taunton Deane Borough Council in 2000, and the Strategy of 2005-2006. The aim of the Tenant and Resident Involvement Strategy, as with the Tenant Participation Compact is to ensure the success of Tenant and Resident Involvement in Taunton Deane Borough Council. The agreed arrangements written into this one-year strategy seek to achieve this by creating effective, equal working partnerships between Tenants and Residents of Taunton Deane, Taunton Deane Tenants' Forum, Ward Councillors and Council Officers.

Tenant and Resident Involvement successes 2002 - 2005

The Tenant Participation Compact for 2002-2003 and the TRI Strategy of 2005-2006 identified numerous action points. Examples of some of the successes achieved during the timescales include:

  • Preparing a new Constitution, Code of Conduct and Standing Orders in conjunction with TPAS and the Tenants' Forum;
  • Remodelling the Deane Housing News and Tenants' Talk newsletters ;
  • Undertaking Borough-wide elections for Tenants' Forum membership;

    Completing a Best Value Review of the Tenant Participation Team's service;
  • Delivering team-building training to the Tenants' Forum;
  • Organising estate walkabouts with Estate Officers and tenant representatives;

    Tenants involved fully in appointment/monitoring of ITA for Housing Transfer process;
  • Raising the profile of Tenant and Resident Involvement through the production of new information documents and leaflets;
  • Reviewing the working structure of the Tenants' Forum, with particular emphasis placed upon increasing effective Forum membership;
  • Increasing the membership of the Tenants' Forum, including representation from leaseholders of Taunton Deane Borough Council;
  • Providing mentoring and training to new and existing members of the Tenants' Forum, enabling them to strengthen their skills and experience;
  • Monitoring the funding available to Tenants and Residents Associations, to enable them to undertake projects which benefit their local communities;
  • Establishing a Tenant and Resident Involvement webpage;
  • Establish joint working initiatives to address inclusion of isolated and 'Hard to Reach' groups;
