Taunton Deane Borough Council has responsibility for controlling building
development in its area. This is done to protect the environment for everyone,
to co-ordinate the way the area develops, and to prevent inappropriate developments.
The Council also investigates breaches of planning control.
Currently the Council receive approximately 2,000 planning applications a year and deals with any appeals that are lodged. The Development Control Manager under delegated powers decides the majority of applications whilst the remainder are reported to the Council's Planning Committee for a decision.
