Smokefree Somerset
On 1 July 2007 England goes Smokefree. This means that smoking will no longer be permitted in workplaces and public places and the Council will play a big role in implementing the new legislation.
The reason why the law has been introduced is to protect the public and employees from the harmful effects of second hand smoke.
The government has announced the introduction of smokefree legislation which will result in smoking being prohibited in all enclosed or substantially enclosed workplaces and public places.
It will have a big effect on residents and businesses alike. Issues such as planning, licensing, enforcement, vehicles and signage will have to be considered.
