The Deane Helpline
The Deane Helpline is an easy way to seek reassurance or assistance in an emergency situation. It is a communication/response service designed for people who feel vulnerable and to give peace of mind to relatives who may be unable to respond.
How does it work?
A small unit is connected into the existing telephone and electric socket. This unit has an alarm button built in, but it can also be activated by a remote pendant which is on a cord worn around the neck, or on a wristband or clip.
The range of the pendant allows movement around the home and garden still maintaining the ability to activate the base unit and so call for assistance. Once a call has been made to the control centre, a speech channel is opened allowing the client to communicate with the operator without the need to lift a receiver on the telephone. Fully trained staff will provide a suitable response to the call. This may mean contacting a nominated friend/relative or a member of our emergency response team.
The Deane Helpline is there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing reassurance, advice and a fast appropriate response in emergency situations.
Feeling safe
The Helpline Service can be adapted to meet many needs. Victims of crime who feel vulnerable and fear repeat attempts of burglary or assault can feel assured that a call can be made to an operator. The procedure followed by that operator will be tailor-made to suit each individual or organisation. The call may be audible or silent depending upon the circumstances and the agreement made at the time of installation. In all cases it will be acted upon with a suitable and appropriate response.
Units installed by Taunton police, for domestic abuse, are monitored by the Deane Helpline. As soon as the control centre has been alerted via a unit, they will see on the computer screen the pre-programmed number. The name and address of the user is only available to the police. Immediately, the police are contacted and informed of the alarm number which has been activated. The police will respond to any of these units as an emergency.
Costs
There is a cost for this service but it is possible that subsidised rates for members of the public meeting certain criteria, may be applied. Please refer to the Deane Helpline for advice on charges.
The Deane Helpline provide an excellent service in many homes by monitoring alarm units. Any member of the public may rent a unit or if preferred purchase one and thereafter pay a small monitoring charge. In both instances maintenance is included in the contract.
Payment for this peace of mind 'lifeline' is made on a quarterly basis in advance and a refund is made on any advance payment should the 'lifeline' be removed beforehand. Notice of one month is required. Payment can be made either by cash, cheque or by standing order.
