Statement of Community Involvement

The Borough Council's Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) outlines the following:

• How the Borough Council shall consult on preparing the Local Development Framework
• Advice to applicants on how they should consult before submitting planning applications
• How the Borough Council shall consult when we receive planning applications
• How we shall join the Local Development Framework with the Community Strategy

The Borough Council's SCI was "adopted" on 9th July 2007. This followed an "Examination" (January 2007) during which a Government appointed Inspector considered objections to the SCI. The Inspector's report (see below) was issued in February 2007 and concluded that the SCI was "sound", subject to some minor alterations. The Inspector's Report was considered by Full Council during April 2007. Full Council agreed to adopt the SCI subject to undertaking the amendments as proposed by the Inspector. These amendments have now been incorporated within the SCI, and the document was finally "signed off" as adopted on 9th July 2007.

Over the next week we shall write to all on the LDF consultation database, and inform them of the adoption of the SCI.

Any person who feels aggrieved by the decision of the Council to adopt the SCI may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for a judicial review of the decision to adopt the SCI. Please refer to the "Adoption Statement" below.

A review of the SCI will commence during 2010.
