Taunton Town Centre Area Action Plan

The Council adopted this Plan in October 2008.

The adopted Action Plan now establishes:

  • The 'Vision' and strategy for the regeneration of Taunton town centre
  • The policy framework to guide the redevelopment of a number of important sites including: Firepool; the County Ground and Coal Orchard;land either side of High Street; Castle Green; and Tangier
  • How the various proposals will be implemented, including the roles and responsibilities of partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors

The Action Plan is accompanied by the Taunton Town Centre Design Code, which was also adopted in October 2008.This is a Supplementary Planning Document that provides detailed design guidance for all the key regeneration sites within the town centre.

Now it is adopted, several 'town centre' policies within the existing Taunton Deane Local Plan (adopted 2004) are redundant and no longer used for planning control purposes.
