Brown Bin and Caddy - Weekly Food Waste

WHEN: Please ensure your refuse and recycling is ready for collection by 7 am on your collection day - collection times may vary.

WHERE: Please place your bins and box at the edge of your property nearest the road where these can easily be seen. Please be considerate and do not obstruct the pavement.

NEED HELP? If you think you may have difficulty using or moving the bins or box and there is nobody that can help you, please contact the helpline on (01823) 356346 to request assistance.

Food waste forms over 25% of the average household's bin waste by weight - it can be composted but it must be specially treated and therefore this is collected separately. You have been provided with two food waste bins - one small bin for your weekly food waste collection and a smaller kitchen caddy to use inside your home and transfer to your bin when convenient.

Your food waste bin can be easily locked. The lid is secure when the handle is positioned at the front of the bin. To open the lid, push the handle to the rear of the bin. Please lock the lid when presenting the food waste bin on collection day.

Yes please - No thanks -
Cooked & uncooked food Plastic(including plastic bags)
Fruit and vegetables Metal and glass
Meat, cheese and egg shells Garden waste
Bread, pasta, cereal Any other household waste
Tea bags and coffee grounds

It is important that only the items requested are placed in the food waste bin to ensure quality compost. Contaminated food bins may not be emptied.

Keeping your food waste caddy and bin clean

To help keep your food bins clean, you can wrap food waste or line bins with newspaper. You can also purchase approved compostable liners - contact the Helpline 01823 356346. Please note food waste cannot be collected if placed in plastic bags. Even biodegradable plastic cannot be accepted, as most types take too long to break down when composted.
If you are unsure of your round, please view the Refuse Collection Rounds pages to find out what particular round your street is part of.
