Under the High Hedges legislation, which is in Part 8 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003, it is now possible to make a formal complaint to the council about certain hedges. For information about which hedges are included in the legislation and the complaint process visit the Communities and Local Government website or the Naturenet website. The most useful documents are ‘High Hedges: complaining to the council’, ‘Hedge Height and Light Loss’ and ‘High Hedge complaints, Prevention and Cure’.
If you are intending to make a formal complaint, or considering it, please contact us to discuss the matter and to obtain the necessary form and guidance notes.
The current charge for making a formal complaint to the council is £400.
