French Weir Park is a small community park, covering 2.4 hectares, and is situated alongside the River Tone in Taunton. As a neighbourhood park it provides a place for passive recreation, children's play and acts as an attractive through route between residential areas, shops, schools and colleges.
The park is roughly triangular: the Western and Southern boundaries are formed by the River Tone, with the Weir itself lying at the South-Western corner of the site and the eastern boundary with residential properties.
French Weir Bridge (via Marshalsea Walk and Tangier car park), French Weir Avenue (off Staplegrove Road), Clarence Street, (on-street parking short stay), River Tone Bridge (via Longrun Meadow), Roughmoor (via footpath along River Tone).
French Weir has a range of amenities. Children's play area and kindergarten, public toilets with disabled facilities, wildlife areas, interpretation boards and a bug hotel.
COACH (Centre for Outdoor Activities and Community Hub) project building will have a rowing, kayaking, canoeing and bike store as well as a store for the "Friends of French Weir" and the "Friends of Longrun Meadow". There is also public accessible toilets, changing rooms, kitchen and an independent coffee shop 'The Weir'.
