Your Council

Taunton Deane is a Borough council, we are responsible for services like:

We are responsible for making decisions that affect the services we deliver to you and the environment that you live, work or play in. We publish information about when key decisions will be taken, agendas and minutes of meetings. You can view council meeting agendas, minutes and reports. You may also attend most council meetings, although you may not be able to speak at them. We publish a Weekly Bulletin which reports on council decisions.

We are fully committed to the Government’s transparency agenda and we publish open data on our finances, land and property and our organisation. We provide information about how we spend our budget and tell you when you can view the detailed financial accounts.

We hold local Councillor elections every four years. You can contact your Councillor to talk about how they can represent your views. We have a civic Mayor who carries out ceremonial duties and chairs meetings.

We listen to your views through consultation, feedback and petitions. If you are not happy with the way that we have delivered a council service you can make an official complaint to the council. If you remain dissatisfied you can write to the Local Government Ombudsman.

We look to the future and publish details through our Corporate strategy documents such as the Corporate Plan and the Growth and Development Programme. We work with communities, businesses and other local government bodies to improve our environment and economy.

We accept and consider with requests made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) for information about the Council. Anyone can make a request for information, there is no restriction to age, nationality or location. Information is provided subject to certain exemptions.
